The White House is bracing for a possible government shutdown.

The government runs out of money at midnight and a short-term spending extension is stalled in the Senate.

In a briefing today, White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney said the Trump administration does not want a shutdown.

He accused Senate Democrats of prompting a funding crisis.

Mulvaney said President Trump is actively working to get a deal to avert a shutdown.

White House Legislative Affairs Director Marc Short said a shutdown would jeopardize ongoing military funding.

Democrats want longterm protections for Dreamers, young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

The House passed a one-month funding extension last night.
