Sugar Bowl Tragedy: Postponement is the Right Call

Early this morning on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, an unidentified driver intentionally plowed a car into a large crowd of people celebrating the New Year just outside the Sugar Bowl, killing at least 10 people. With the big game set for later today, Doug Gottlieb and Dan Beyer (filling in for Dan Patrick) wrestle with the impossible decision of whether or not the game should be postponed in the wake of such a terrible tragedy.

Doug Gottlieb: "I do understand you're talking about thousands of people, and I don't know what an extra day would do, but I don't know... That's a terror attack, by definition of the word. That's a terror attack right down the street. We can say it doesn't have any effect on the game, but what are we actually talking about? Do we just play? The show must go on? That's a hard one. I do think you at least have to have a conversation, like are we doing the right thing by playing this game?... At the end of the day, it's such a big ship to turn around."
Dan Beyer: "It's a really tough situation... If it was a Saints game you could just move it to a Monday night, but because you've got two fan bases flying in and likely flying back out the next day, it's difficult to do. With everything that's happened, though, you need to have that conversation."
